![]() RandyS, Do you own 325 Savage 340's or am I reading your post wrong? 50 rounds of Sako ammunition and a set of dies and shell holder are on their way here. ![]() 222 and hope to wring it out some this week. I find it somewhat amusing to think a rifle which was marketed as a plain-jane, utilitarian piece is looking pretty darned good compared to the high-priced, second rate stuff being produced today. (The bolt handle as a safety lug doesn't look too substantial to me.) It was accurate, especially with toned-down handloads. I shot a number of woodchucks with the 340V, but I was always a little leery of factory ammunition in that single lug design. It added a toch of class to a homely gun. I kind of wish Savage had retained the 325's butterknife bolt handle. I've had a Model 325 Stevens 30-30 and a 340V in. Hope to replace that with an old K-10, but it will do for now. Rifle is in remarkable condition, and came with a mutt Tasco 3X9X40 scope. ![]() No serial number, Dockendorff rear sight. Barrel code indicates it was built in 1953. I have to say that this would have been in the mid-fifties.Ī couple of weeks ago I picked up a 340B in. In my mind's eye, I can recall one of Savage's half-page duotone ads featuring a deluxe 340 with checkered stock.
